Nature is boss. I have made three apple crumbles in the last three days (on top of numerous pies over the last few weeks), and I still have plenty of windfall apples to get through. Until I run out all family and friends who cross my path will be given an apple x,y, or z and asked to return the dish!
I have such a strong compulsion to use up natures offerings, not to waste them, to share them. Also, I know that these fruits will be gone soon. I don’t have the space to store them properly so I will use them whilst I can. For me the seasons change and with them my habits adjust.
For many of us nature has patterns which we have come to rely on. Sometimes, as we have just seen in the Philippines, nature can be cruel and unreliable. I cannot think of a single reason why what happened in the Philippines happened, other than “nature”. It has been a powerful reminder that we are never really in control of anything. And that many people who are suffering are in no way responsible for their situation.
I realise how I am lucky to enjoy and share the fruits of nature at a time when so many people are on the other end of the spectrum. It could be me on the receiving end next time nature decides to show us who is boss.
So, my little blog musings today are a nod to those who I would dearly love to share my apples with.
Even if you know you cannot actually do it, what would you share with someone today if you could? Are you able to extend compassion to someone today that you can reach?
